A documentary is when you use pictures or interviews with people involved in real events to provide a factual report on a particular subject. Most familiar documentaries out there is the expository mode. Expository docs are heavily researched and are sometimes referred to as essay films because they aim to educate people and explain things like events, issues, ways of life, worlds and exotic settings we know little about. Also in documentaries there is always a background voice called the narration track the person explaining whats happening e.g. if its a documentary about animals or the universe. There are also many other different modes to a documentary like The Observational Mode, The Participatory Mode, The Reflexive Mode, The Poetic Mode, The Performative Mode. Documentaries that I often enjoy watching a persons life the celebrity ones their autobiography.
